Just found out this group existed but moving to VA in 2 weeks

The Furst State - 7 hours 5 min ago
Hello all my name is Kelo, a small wingless forest Dragon. My mate Darachi a female leopard lives over in Penns Grove just across the water from Willminton, DE and neither of us knew this whole group even existed till just now. Sadly we are moving to the 757 area of Virginia in 2 weeks but with the little time we have left was wondering if there was anything nearby going on or could be happening this weekend or the week thereafter.

We have always been very hard pressed to find things to do day to day around here and hope maybe you all could give some ideas before we bid this area farewell.

Important announcement concerning harassment at TFS events.

The Furst State - Sun, 2012-02-05 11:21
The Delaware Furbowl is intended to be a fun, social event for all who attend. We're here to make new friends, socialize with old ones, and have a great time.

However, there was an incident at the most recent Delaware Furbowl that is considered unacceptable. Sometime during the event, a female attendee's butt was grabbed and she was later taunted about it. It is never acceptable to touch someone you do not know in a sexually suggestive manner. No always means no.

The Furst State has a zero tolerance policy on this type of issue. Any act of sexual harassment will be met with severe disciplinary actions by The Furst State administration, up to and including removal from an event and restricting attendance to future Furst State events, as per our Standards of Conduct.

We understand that the furry fandom is an affectionate one, and for most furries the handshake has been replaced by the hug. We're a friendly bunch; hugging and nuzzles are common sights at the Delaware Furbowl. However, attendees need to keep in mind that not everyone is comfortable with affectionate touching, and you should never touch someone inappropriately without consent. This includes fursuiters and any other costumers.

In response to this incident, we will have a Delaware Furbowl staff member dedicated to security to ensure everyone is safe and having a good time.

If you are being harassed inappropriately at the Delaware Furbowl or any Furst State event, come to a staff member immediately so we can handle the situation.

If you see someone being bothered in an inappropriate manner, step in and say something. The Delaware Furbowl and The Furst State relies on it's community for keeping the event safe for everyone.

We want the Delaware Furbowl to be fun and furry, but safety for the attendees is our number one priority.

Hello everyone! :)

Introductions - Sat, 2012-02-04 19:49

Hello all of my fellow Pennsylvanian furries! My name is Kelly and I just wanted to introduce myself! I am extremely new to the fandom but I am already really loving it. I pretty much don't know anyone else that is also a furry, so I figured this is the best place to start getting to know others! I live in the northeastern part of PA, most would know this area by the name 'Poconos.' I'm very close to Wilkes-Barre and Bloomsburg, also Stroudsburg. I'd love to know of anyone else that lives near these areas and any meet ups that may be occurring near me so I can start making some friends that share my affinity for all things furry! Mostly, though, I just wanted to get my feet wet by simply saying "Hello!"

How our webserver performed under a really heavy load

Anthrocon - Sat, 2012-02-04 12:23

As folks noticed on Thursday morning when we opened hotels, the website displayed errors for 5-10 minutes starting at 9 AM EST due to the rush of traffic that came in.  This was due to a few factors, which I'd like to go into in technical detail below.

First, some raw stats:

Peak bandwidth: approx 3.6 Megabits/sec

Peak connections: 1,060 concurrent connections

Number of users logged into the site: 100+

Here are some graphs that show just how big those numbers are, compared to normal traffic levels:

For those who saw last year's post about the load on the webserver when we opened up hotels, this year's traffic was about twice what last year's traffic was.  I didn't see that coming.

As is plainly visible in the traffic graph, the machine that this website runs on is capabale of much higher bandwidth throughput.  So, what happened?

In a word: caching.  Or rather, the lack thereof in certain cases.

EFM Feb 26th Meet (Confetti Arcade)

The Furst State - Sat, 2012-02-04 08:36
Our second meet of the month will be Sun Feb 26th. We will be located at the Confetti Arcade in the Coventry Mall by the Food Court. The meet will start at 6pm when the mall closes. The arcade will be completely closed off to everyone except us. All the non-ticket games in the arcade will be set on "Free Play" mode, meaning you don't have to pay for them. It is $5 to attend, and the arcade and games are at our disposal for 2 hours. If we have 40 or more people, we get the arcade for 4 hours for $5. Fursuits are welcome and even encouraged. The owner is very excited to host us monthly.

Games Included in "Free Play":
DanceDanceRevolution AKA In the Groove
Air Hockey
Mortal Kombat
Super Mario Brothers
And many other classic and new arcade games!

Check out the Confetti Arcade's Facebook Page!

Address:
351 West Schuylkill Road
South Pottstown, Pennsylvania 19465

If anyone shows up to the arcade after the mall has already closed, or you want to park close, just drive around the mall until you see the food court entrance (it's tucked away into a corner, there will be a visible McDonalds logo) and use the door to the left of that entrance, as that is a direct entrance to the arcade and should be unlocked.

Please make sure to review the EFM code of conduct and rules before signing up.

State of Logistics

Anthrocon - Fri, 2012-02-03 06:51

First off a big thank you to the city of Pittsburgh for once again having us there and for the extra hotel space.  Good luck with the NHL draft!

Well once again we are closing in on another Anthrocon. We of the logistical department are already gearing up for another great con and its sure to not disappoint. The first thing that I would like to share is our more organized storage locker at Etna. Everything is labled and packed in such a way that it should make unloading the truck at the con a lot easier. This does bring up some new hurdles however at the close of the con as we would like everything to be placed back exactly as we unloaded it. This will take a team effort not only from the whole logistics dept but also from the other staff as well. We know your up to it though.

Secondly, the logistics staff will be sporting some new attire to help in identifing us should any one need to find us and can tell us apart on site. Security seemed to like the shirts we had last year and I was told it did alliviate some confusion so thats a plus. For those wondering what we have this year...you will find out.

For those of you who want to volunteer in the department we need most of your help during setup and takedown. Not only are these our most active times all your volunteer time is doubled at these peek times as well! Either see Con Ops or one of the logistical staff and we will be happy to install shock coll...er set you up with volunteer forms.

Thats it for me here. Lets make Anthrocon 2012 the best ever...we may not be around much more anyway if that darn Mayan calender has its way...

Help make this happen

Suites available at the Doubletree

Anthrocon - Thu, 2012-02-02 18:24

Our friends at the Doubletree have made more suites available. They are quite a bargain at $169, and they can once more be reserved online by clicking here and checking the box that says "Suites."

If you already made your reservation at the Doubletree and would like to upgrade your room to a suite, you can do that by calling the hotel directly and asking to speak to Ms. Judy Costello. We have quite a few suites ready to go but not an infinite supply, so don't delay!

Did you have trouble reserving a hotel room this morning?

Anthrocon - Thu, 2012-02-02 10:04

If you had website issues with us or the hotels, or phone issues with the hotels, we would like to know about it.

I set up a survey to gather more data, which will be passed onto hotel management in the event of issues directly with the hotels.  It can be found here:

http://www.anthrocon.org/node/7580/survey-your-hotel-reservation-experience

Please fill it out, and go into as much detail as you like in the comments section.

Thanks!

How to reserve hotel rooms this morning

Anthrocon - Thu, 2012-02-02 08:35

Hotel reservations open up in approximately 25 minutes, and I've already received a few questions about the actual process.  In an effort to avoid any confusion at 9 AM, follow these instructions:

Step 1) Go to http://www.time.gov/ and click on "Eastern Time Zone".  That's the official US time.

Step 2) Get some coffee.

Step 3) At 9 AM, go to http://www.anthrocon.org/hotel and continue on from there to get a hotel room.

The only flaw in this awesome plan might be my ability to publish the pages promptly at 9 AM due to server load.  If that happens (and you see our "DON'T PANIC" page), be assured that I'll try my darndest to publish them as quickly as I can.

In the event that anything goes wrong, I will post updates to Twitter, Facebook, and Google Plus, in that order.

Good luck!

Try to teach your dog how to write...

The Furst State - Wed, 2012-02-01 20:21
...using his or her paws on an iPad, just remember to hold the iPad still in the process.

And if you think I'm nuts they managed to teach an elephant how to paint in thailand by holding a paintbrush with its trunk.

My friend Ben also managed to teach his dog how to read at one time.

And the reason why this thread is in the game room, consider it a challenge.

I saw a vehicle I didn't recognize with a TFS logo on it!

The Furst State - Wed, 2012-02-01 10:41
I was driving along Airport Rd/Common's Blvd today at 10:20am and saw a white Jeep SUV (probably a Cherokee) with a yellow pawprint decal like the ones we sell at FurBowl. I was so excited to randomly see one on the road. It was difficult to make out the driver though. The vehicle also has a blue NAVY bumper sticker on it. I'm just curious who it was I ran into.

(Yes I know I'm a dork)

Firestarter

The Furst State - Wed, 2012-02-01 00:08
Hello reader! This is my second attempt at a succesfull RP. My first wasn't a failure, it's still going on, it only had one person other than my working in it. This one is a bit more interactive ( and violent). This is also an attempt to gain insperation for a piece of writing I'm working on.

It is the year 6035 and all human life has been extinguished. To replace humans, animals have super-evolved. In the ruins of human society, the animals have started to build a new empire, but every empire has it's enemies. In this case the government is being opposed by the cult known as Corona Ultima. Corona Ultima is a large cult, nearly ten million members, that is based out of bunkers hiden around the country. Their leader, played by me, is known as Xzavier. He is a intelligent, brave if not foolhardy wolf who is always looking for a way to help his cult continue progression of the new race. His origional partner was named Markus, but long story short, he was exiled from the cult. The opposition to Corona Ultima is the government. The government is a controlling, on the verge of communist, leadership that always puts its own good above the good of the citizens. It's military is a strong but some-what unloyal group of highly trained soldiers. During the Final War, the war that killed-off the human race, the spirits and demons called apon children to serve them as angles. Both sides used children as soldiers. The children are some of the most dangerus forces on the planet. One angle could destroy a city, if they have their wings. If a angle's wings are removed, the angle will lose all of their power and be cast down to the mortal world. Even without their wings the children are still a force to be reconed with because they still remember their training from their time under one of the mysticle forces. A few of the fallen angles have found their way into the military force of the government or Corona Ultima. They act as super-soldiers for the force they fight for. There is also the regular civilian population of the New world. They are caught in the crossfire of the two opposing nations and are just attempting to find safety.

You can enter either Corona Ultima or the government's army. You can even just be a civilian, if you want to. There are no player angles alowed without special reason. Remember that the world you are used to has been reduced to rubble. People look around the rubble of destroyed citys, looking for something usable. In the larger, more populated, less destroyed areas of the country, large citys have sprung up out of the chaos. They are almost like citys in current time, exccept for the fact that most of them are stricly controlled by the government. You pick where you start. If you're a civilian you should start in the planes, the wastland inbetween the citys and ruins, or the ruins of a city. If you're in Corona Ultima, you should start in one of the bunkers. There are 8 of them but the biggest are in New York, Jacksonvill, and Santa Monica, so you should pick one of thoes bunkers. If you're a government soldier you should start in one of the major citys. There are three major city that were rebuilt after the Final War. They are Lancing Michigan, San Antonio Texas, and Boston Massachusetts.

In order to start, please leave a small discription about your charicter, you faction, and a small background of your charicter. The actual RP will start once we have a deciently large amount of people participating. Thank you for participating.

Sincerly,
Shadowhound97
