2010 Mars Applefest FurMeet

Wed, 2010-09-01 16:52

The Mars Applefest is a small festival that is held every October in my home town. If you've never been to the Applefest, it's basically a day where everybody in town sets up tables on the street and sells apple-based goods. Cider, juice, pies, pastries, you name it. It also doubles as flea market.  It's pretty much the biggest day of the year for my town, aside from New Years and the 4th of July.

This year it's being held on Saturday, October 2nd, and runs from 10AM to 5PM.  I think it would be a lot of fun if a bunch of us furs (who aren't able to attend WPAFW) could come to the Applefest and entertain the public. I'm not 100% sure my fursuit will be finished by then, but it would still be nice to go with some other people who are in-suit, just to goof around and have some fun.

We'll meet at my house at 9AM, where we can get our suits on and pack refreshments if needed.  After the festival, we could all go back to my place and rest our feet, enjoy some apple foods, and order some pizza.

If you're interested and would like to attend, you can sign up at this website: http://applefestfurmeet.weebly.com/

[WPAFW] Pre-reg ends in Two Weeks!

Mon, 2010-08-30 09:08
Hey everyone!

The Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend is coming up on October 1-3, 2010, in Pittsburgh, PA. That's just over a month away and the staff and I have been busy getting everything ready for your arrival and a fun weekend of furry fellowship.

First, let me send my thanks to everyone who's pre-registered for the Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend already for the basic and supporter levels! Thank you so much for your support of the event.

Everyone else...well what are you waiting for? Pre-registration closes on September 12th and with it your chance to save some $$ from the "at the door" rates.

Well for those of you still on the fence about attending, we've updated our website with a full Schedule of Activities for the weekend along with descriptions of the events we have arranged for your enjoyment. Aside from the signature "Fur-b-que" picnic at the park on Saturday, we have a puppet show, a menagerie full of fursuit antics, and dances on Friday AND Saturday nights. There are also games, a drum circle, a geocache, and laser tag. If you just want to come, relax and hang out with friends, we've got plenty of room for that too. All this is thanks to the hard work of our Operations Chair Cadpig Lion.

WPAFW.ORG
Akira Shima is once again gathering donations from near and far to once again provide a Charity Raffle that is second to none in the fandom. Our Charity Raffle is run like a "Chinese Auction." To augment the tickets that come with your registration, we sell additional tickets you place in the bucket for the specific items you want to try and win. All proceeds from the ticket sales are donated to our selected charity The Beaver County Humane Society. Over the past two WPAFW's the generosity of our attendees has raised $2500 for this worthy non-profit group.

Pre-registration rates right now are $25 for a Basic Friday and Saturday registration; a savings of $5 off the "at the door" rate for the entire event.
Pre-registration rates for Supporter memberships are only $40 and come with all sorts of swag to sweeten the deal: color print of the cover art, extra raffle tickets, front of the line privileges for lunch and dinner, as well as a special something currently in the works. Also! ONLY Pre-registered Supporters will get a $5 gift card to Denny's...have "breakfast on us" or save it for another time.

Registration will be open at the event. "At the Door" Basic registration is $30 on Friday & Saturday, $25 for Saturday Only. This year you can register or upgrade to Supporter for $40 or the difference between your pre-registered rate and the Supporter rate. On site Supporter registrations will get the same swag as supplies last, with the exception of the Denny's gift card.

We do have a small block of rooms available at the Comfort Inn Pittsburgh North at the rate of $74.99 a night which puts you right in the heart of the action Friday and Saturday nights. Reservations must be made by calling the hotel and reserving a room. The group name and number are available on the WPAFW website.

WPAFW.ORG
Don't miss out on this annual event! Join us for Furry Fun in the Autumn Sun on October 1, 2 & 3, 2010 in the scenic Allegheny River valley just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Western Pennsylvania Furry Weekend 2010!

Could use a ride partner for Knoebel's and Dorney Park this weekend

Thu, 2010-08-26 13:30
I'm planning a road trip to two amusement parks in northeastern Pennsylvania this weekend, Knoebel's on Saturday and Dorney Park on Sunday. Amusement parks can be rather sad places when you go alone, so I'd like one (or possibly two) ride partners to go along. I'll provide transportation from anywhere in Pennsylvania and also pay for the hotel room for Saturday night.

If you'd like to join me, please send an email to johnjfriedrich #at# *gmail.com* with "Amusement Park Trip" in the subject and tell me a little about yourself. I'm 40 years old and I don't smoke, drink, or take drugs; more information available on request. I'm afraid I can only accept one offer.

Where do I RSVP?
You can RSVP at our surple.com RSVP site: http://furbowl.surple.com

Note: Only check for bowling if you actually plan to bowl. If you are going to just hang out at the bowling alley then leave the bowling checkbox blank.

Please only RSVP if you are fairly positive you're going to be there. It does me no good to see your name on there, reserve a spot for you, and then you not show up.

The majority of my stress comes from people showing up without signing up, and people signing up and not coming. That gives me gray hairs! I don't need my stripes fading just yet!

Details about the Furbowl:

We meet up in the East King Parking Lot around 7:00 PM. This is a nifty time to loiter, mingle, and say say hello before the night begins!

At 7:30(ish) we'll begin heading into the buffet to get some delicious food. East King Buffet offers your standard Chinese Buffet food, along with some really nice Sushi selections and a Mongolian Grill.
You can find some more information about the East King Restaurant here. http://www.yelp.com/biz/east-king-buffet...wilmington.

Expect to spend around $16 for all you can eat plus a soda.

When 8:30 rolls around we'll begin paying the restaurant and heading to the bowling alley, AMF Price Lanes. I'll have the lanes reserved in advance and we will congregate in those reserved lanes.

Note about the bowling portion: If we have over 40 bowlers bowling we get a hefty discount from $14.50 for 2 games and shoes to $10

If you are paying by cash then you will need to find LupineSpark to pay him and recieve a ticket for shoes. He is pretty easy to find though and will be near the big sign that says "Cash customers"

If you are paying by credit card or debit card then please go directly to the front desk and pay them as soon as you get in. Tell them you're with "The Furries" they'll know what that means. :3

Expect to spend about $10-15 for bowling.

After you are paid, please just hang out and the lanes will be turned on shortly. Once they are on then go ahead and throw yourself in a lane and begin bowling!

Those in fursuit please try to use the lanes closest to the outside door, that way you can get some fresh air if you need it. The more serious bowlers please use the opposite end of our lanes so y'all can concentrate on racking up the stripes!

Around 11:00 PM is generally when we gather for the group photo. If you wanna be in suit for the photo remember this! The photo goes Fursuiters first, then everyone at the event. Fursuits in the front, regular furs in the back.

[EVENT] Pittsburgh Monthly Furmeet!-Thursday 6:30-9pm-Schenley Plaza

Wed, 2010-08-11 07:31
Pittsburgh's Monthly Fur Meet!
When:
Thursday, August 12, 2010
Time: 6:30-9pm
Where: Schenley Plaza, under the Tent Structure. http://www.pittsburghparks.org/schenleyplaza
In the event of rain: Panera Bread (Oakland), 3401 Boulevard of the Allies, Pgh, PA 15213

With summer upon us, we should take advantage of the warm weather and longer evenings and try an capture an out of doors venue where we can not only sit, relax and enjoy the free WiFi, but also play a little. Schenley Plaza allows for a covered sitting area, as well as grassy areas for throwing Frisbee and the Quad area which has been popular with those playing lazer tag. Food and drinks are available just up the road at the 7-11 on Forbes Avenue, or at the many eateries another block down the road.

Schenley Plaza is a part of the City Parks Conservatory and fursuits, ears and tails are welcome. Pets, and their responsible owners, are also welcome at Schenley Plaza.

In the event of rain, we will return to our old home at the Panera Bread on the Blvd of the Allies in Oakland.

The meet is what you make of it, so come on out and have some fun with fellow Pittsburgh Area furs! Don't forget to bring and show off your con badges if you have them! It at least helps us know who you are on the inside. :)

Hope to see you there!

Swift Fox

Quick note!

Hey everyone,

We posted about a party happening this Saturday and unfortunately we're going to have to reschedule till later in the month. Moving and work schedules are making this hard to pull off this weekend.

So the Hatboro party is off for Saturday, and will be rescheduled for another date in the near future.

Morphicon August 2010 Newsletter Now Available!

Morphicon Miscellanea - August 2010 Edition

-= Morphicon End-of-Summer Picnic =-
Yes, fellow furs, it is that time of year to once again look forward to the Morphicon picnic. As in previous years, the picnic will be held at Sharon Woods Metro Park, just north-east of Columbus, and on September 4th. While we understand this is Labour Day weekend, we also know it'll be a great excuse for having to take off Friday from work if "necessary"!
Food, of course, will be gratis, however, if there is anything in particular you would like or want to share with the group please feel free to bring it along. Food donations will also be happily accepted. Activities will include all the amenities the park has to offer, with the addition of horseshoes, frisbee, wiffle ball, and Pictionary. Should you have any events you would like to see please let us know.
With the date still a month away we have plenty of time for flexibility. If you would like to bring any food or something else to do, please send an e-mail to publicity @ morphicon.org and we will get back to you. Information and directions to the park can be found here: Sharon Woods Metro Park. See you there!

-= The Woollybear Festival is Coming! =-
Vermilion, Ohio is once again preparing for the 38th Annual Woollybear Festival & Parade, the largest one-day gathering in the state! On September 26th, thousands will flock the quaint town of Vermilion, located on the shores of Lake Erie. Events will include the parade, music, games, fair food, and more! For more information on the festival, please see the Woollybear Festival home page.
Morphicon has traditionally played a part in the festivities and would like to do so again this year. If you would like to participate, please send a e-mail to publicity @ morphicon.org so we can get in touch with you and coordinate. Please note, this is a family festival and while ears, tails, and fursuits are welcome, anything stronger than G-rated is highly discouraged.

-= Calling All Artists =-
We are always looking for art for various publications we put out. If you have anything you would like to donate, please don't hesitate to let us know. Submissions can always be sent to publicity @ morphicon.org at any time.
Right now, we are requesting art for our Furry Trackers Guide, a booklet for con-goers, showing various locations were one might procure food, access an ATM, etc. The art should reflect this year's theme of Furries in Wonderland, with a focus on a specific section. Please feel free to send any questions and artwork to Lightpaws. We can't guarantee we can use all the art but your contribution will be mentioned nonetheless.

Want to see additional content or have something to say about the latest newsletter? Please visit the enhanced HTML version at Morphicon.org and let us know what you think!

Vuvuzela-Vuvuzela-CICADA!

Fri, 2010-07-30 11:23
I remember the 2004 "Brood-X" chirring so loud the sound got through closed windows sometimes during the day.  Now there's an impressive 2010 bunch chittering and humping away in the local trees.  Anyone else in PA now involuntarily eavesdropping on the insect orgy?  At least they don't sound like vuvuzelas, or it'd be flamethrower time!

Edit:  After a little research (i.e. five minutes with Google) I found out these must be the "dogday cicadas" which are annual and get frisky about this time of year, not the 17-year type.  Still pretty noisy, though kinda soothing if they don't get /too/ loud.

OH A PARTY - AUGUST 7th

Fri, 2010-07-23 10:51

Protocollie here and I want to tell you all about an awesome little thing we do in Hatboro called a shindig. That's right, I said it. A shindig. Hatboro shindigs used to happen all the time but then we had to grow up and be adults and that sucks because really, it's a lot more fun to not do that. So here's the deal. My roommates and I are all splitting up and one of our favorite things about our current place is HOW BIG IT IS. It's great for having a party in so... oh, you know where this is going, right?

To celebrate the end of an epic era of SEPA history, we're going to throw one last balls-out (figuratively, keep them safely in your pants) bash with liquor, food, and more than enough what the hell is happening to go around. There'll be hookah, there'll be booze, there'll be a fire (if I'm not lazy) and there'll be plenty of awesome people, fursuits, and space to be totally drunk in. There might even be rock band! (Seriously! There might!) Also, music to listen to and probably a chair or something if you want to sit (weakling.) There'll probably be poker later in the night. Lots of great folks will show up, and there'll be plenty of fun to be had. Trust me. It'll rock balls.

It's $5 for UNLIMITED DRINKING, and please keep in mind that we have a FULLY STOCKED BAR. No shit, seriously. We do. Anything you want. There will also be BEER. In fact, there will be a BEER PONG TOURNAMENT, so bring a partner so you can tear up and win... more beer! Or maybe a hat, or plastic cup that says #1 on it - the prize isn't what matters, it's the journey. $5 addition covers your fuzzy little butt for pizza, too.

This is OPEN INVITE so bring your friends, but keep in mind it's a furmeet primarily. If you are not comfortable around drunk folk, stay home. If you don't feel you can drink to excess but not enough that you don't puke all over the house, stay home. If you can't be outside without being so loud that you're going to get the cops called, stay home. If you're underage and planning on trying to sneak drinks? STAY HOME. ID is a MUST, you will not drink if you're under 21 and if you do, you're out on your ass. We like to do things legit here.

Any questions can be shot by me, details on the flyer above. See you there!

TL;DR - August 7th, huge party in SE PA, all are welcome, lots of booze, be 21+ with ID to drink ($5 covers you all night from a full bar) and $5 for pizza. Don't be a d-bag, and have fun.
