Anthrocon

Syndicate content
Anthrocon began as Albany Anthrocon in 1997, and since then has grown into the largest anthropomorphics conventions in the world with a membership in 2003 of nearly two thousand. All of the finer aspects of anthropomorphic, or more commonly, "Furry" fandom, are celebrated here. Our programming includes workshops and seminars in acting, costume-building, animation, writing, art and design, and more. We also host an extensive art show where the best in anthropomorphic artwork is offered for sale.

Fursuiter Information! Fursuit Badges, Parade Summary, and Post Parade Meet & Greet!

Tue, 2017-06-20 23:38

Attention Fursuiters! It's getting closer to Anthrocon and we know there are lots of things going on. So we wanted to take a few minutes to address something things we know are important! While we are posting this here as well there will be print copies of this availalbe at the Programming Office in the Westin's Washington Room!

Fursuit Badges!

To get a Fursuit Badge:

The suit must represent an "anthro" character.  Character representations of non-anthro characters, human characters, spandex bodysuits do not count.  At minimum, a headpiece, hand-paws, and a tail (if applicable by species); if using latex and makeup, it must completely cover exposed surfaces.  Skin must not be visible when the costume is worn, to complete the illusion of an anthropomorphic creature.  Remember, we have only a limited number of badges, which will be available outside of Operations in Room 309 of the convention center.

Wed, 2017-05-24 00:21

So the moment that many have waited for is here. The schedule for Anthrocon 2017 is live. We thought we would give ourselves a bit of a soft launch by announcing it here. We are once again using Sched to help make things easier.

The hours for the Art Show, Artist Alley, Registration, and the Dealer's Room have been adeded.

https://anthrocon2017.sched.org

So just a few things!

If you see anything wrong let us know. BUT we need all these changes emailed to eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%70%72%6f%67%72%61%6d%6d%69%6e%67%40%61%6e%74%68%72%6f%63%6f%6e%2e%6f%72%67%22%3e%70%72%6f%67%72%61%6d%6d%69%6e%67%40%61%6e%74%68%72%6f%63%6f%6e%2e%6f%72%67%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) that way we can track them. Private messages, IM, Tweets, Direct Messages are not the proper way to submit chaing requests. If your profile is Sched is not linked to the event you're hosting let us know via email as well. We can merge the profiles and get it squared away.

Thank you for your patience and see you at the convention!

Charity Auction/Raffle Donations Still Needed For 2017 Fundraising!

Sat, 2017-05-13 16:09

Anthrocon's selected charity this year is Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary, whose mission is to rescue neglected farm animals and provide them safe haven. While cash donations made at the convention are great, the plurality of funds are raised via donations of artwork and merchandise to our Charity Auction and Raffle. We're looking for popular items and unique craftwork that will make people say, "I want that!"

While we must distribute items between the Raffle and Auction based on available space, time, and perceived and past value, here are some examples of donations that went big in past years...

Great examples from prior raffles: Crafts based on hot trends ("Toothless" Build-A-Bear plus - $381); Popular media (Sherlock Hound DVD set - $147); Art bought at prior convention art shows ("Wrath" art by Terrie Smith - $83); Giant, brand new plush of popular animals or characters (Border collie plush - $129); Merchandise based on popular fiction (Dr. Who's sonic screwdriver - $158)

Great examples from prior auctions: Fursuit costumes and commissions (Griffon fursuit head - $460); Rare convention memorabilia (Full set of all AC t-shirts since 1997 - $200); Professional sculpture (Softsculp poseable gryphon - $350); Unique opportunities (A speaking part in audio version of Diane Duane's "The Last Meow" - $500); Dorsai fursuit tags (Tag #1000 - $1600)

If you have an item you believe would be appropriate and would like to donate, please contact charity(at)anthrocon.org!

Anthrocon 2017 DJ Auditions

Tue, 2017-03-28 19:40

Hey, everyone! I could apologize a thousand times over for being so late and explain how nuts my life has been, but that's not terribly useful - let's just agree that this won't happen again, shall we?

Audition time is here, which means it's time to fill out a form and then get an email! Thrilling!

This isn't terribly different from previous years: I'm looking for some awesome, reliable folks and some new folks. I'm looking for a wide variety of sounds. Quality of overall live performance is important. Be sure you can match in your live show what you do in your recording, all that.

THAT SAID, THERE IS ONE BIG CHANGE: I am going to give acknowledged, open preference to demos that show off really skilled hip-hop/rap or pop DJs. That's not what the whole dance will be, but fursuit friendly music and an awesome rap DJ are things that have been asked for year over year and I want to make them happen this year. If you play these, and play them well, you've got a way better chance at booking than anyone else and I may find other ways to compensate you as well. If you think this is unfair, sorry. I get lots of house and EDM demos yearly, and while that's awesome music (you know I love my house music) I've had a hard time finding or incentivizing this really in demand stuff to show up. I'd like to change that and make the dances awesome for everyone attending.

I get that it's lame to say "keep it relatively clean" but don't go over the top. Occasional bad words are fine, but don't get me in trouble. C'mon. You can do this.

Anthrocon 2017 Con Badge Changes

Sat, 2017-03-18 17:14

There are several changes coming to registration this year so I am writing this post to let people know what to expect. In this post I will be focusing on the on-site registration and changes coming to the badges.

Last year, as several people are aware, we had issues at on-site registration on Thursday. The printers we use to print out badges had issues and caused several hours of downtime. The problems have made it clear to me that the way we are currently printing badges is not scaling well as we continue to grow. Having all of our on-site check-in stations printing to 2 or 3 printers is just not sufficient any more. And if one printer problem can bring down reg it becomes apparent that changes need to be made.

First off, the badge stock will not be changing. We will still be using the plastic badges like we have been. However, for on-site registrations we will no longer be printing directly on the badge. Instead of using the 2 to3 printers that every check-in station was printing to, each station will now have its own label printer. As a person is checked in, a label will print out right at the station and be affixed to the badge which then can be handed out immediately.

There are a few benefits to do things this way:

1. With the labels printing out right at the stations we will be able to process people through registration faster, which will mean shorter wait times in line.

Good Evening Everyone!

As we count down to Anthrocon 2017 the programming department has been working on getting all the panels sorted out. There is one date though that is very important to remind everyone of - and that is when we are closing submissions for panels.

In order to give us enough time to get everything ironed out we will not be taking submissions after 15-April-2017. The form will shut down at midnight Pacific Time (-7 UTC).

Just to remind you the form is located here:

The Zoo at Anthrocon 2017

Tue, 2017-03-07 21:43

We've got some good news regarding The Zoo at Anthrocon 2017!

The Zoo has officially been moved from Hall D on the Ground Floor of the DLCC to DLCC Rooms 401 through 405 on the 4th floor:

The airwalls between those rooms will be broken down, allowing for a giant continuous space. We will have the space outside of those rooms available for hanging out and socializing. And, as shown in the pictures above, there will be floor to ceiling windows allowing natural light.

We hope you are as excited about the new location as we are!
