Anthrocon began as Albany Anthrocon in 1997, and since then has grown into the largest anthropomorphics conventions in the world with a membership in 2003 of nearly two thousand. All of the finer aspects of anthropomorphic, or more commonly, "Furry" fandom, are celebrated here. Our programming includes workshops and seminars in acting, costume-building, animation, writing, art and design, and more. We also host an extensive art show where the best in anthropomorphic artwork is offered for sale.

Anthrocon 2017 Fursuit Photos

Thu, 2017-07-13 21:05

Many thanks this year go to Warphammer and Kyreeth, for taking the fursuit photos, including the group photo during Saturday'sparade.

The big picture can be found here.

The photo is kinda big, and may cause problems in some browsers, so here are some smaller versions of the photo:

Were you looking for the rest of the fursuit photos? They are over here! If you are looking for photos with the baseball backdrop, those start on page 28.

We hope you enjoy the Anthrocon 2017 photos, and don't forget that if you'd like to share your own photos, please upload them to our group on Flickr.

Anthrocon 2017 Wrapup

Wed, 2017-07-05 23:02

What a convention we had this year!

Let's start with some numbers:

- Attendance: 7,544 of you attended the convention this year. That's a new attendance record!

- The Fursuit Parade: We had 1,890 fursuiters in the parade this year.

- Our charity this year was Hope Haven. $37,598 was donated to them, including $6,183 in the Charity Raffle and over $10,000 in the Charity Auction!

- Our social media presence continues to grow and grow! We had 1,387,000 impressions on Twitter this year, which is a jump of over 30% from last year's number.

While the con itself is still over, we'd like to ask for a little extra help from those of you who went.

We have a Post-con Survey at If you could take the time to fill it out, and let us know what we did right, and we could do better, we'd appreciate it. We'll read the responses over the coming weeks and use them in our planning for next year's convention.

We'd also like to ask if you could share your photos of the event. Our first choice would be our Facebook group, with our Flickr group being a close second. You might just find one of your photos being used in a future #FursuitFriday post!

Anthrocon 2017 Charity Event Summary

Tue, 2017-07-04 11:46

Hi, and welcome to the 2017 edition of the Anthrocon Charity Events Followup!

Anthrocon donated a new record convention total of $37,598 for Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary,
our supported charity this year. Thanks very much to Hope Haven's founder, Dr. Karen Phillips,
and all her volunteers who came out to participate!

We also set new records for money raised in the Raffle and the Poker Tournament!

More special thanks are in order to the following groups and individuals:

* To all the donors who contributed artwork, merchandise, and memorabilia to the auction and
raffle, and to all those who both bid at the auction and bought raffle tickets.

* To the Dorsai Irregulars, Anthrocon's security contingent, who contributed the Elevator Golden
Ticket for 2018.

* To Dr. Samuel Conway and Alkali, for their charity performance for which all ticket sales were
donated to charity. Also, again to Dr. Conway for his annual auctioneering skills.

* To all the fursuiters who volunteered their time for fursuit "bucket brigade" duties.

* To the Westin, Omni, DoubleTree, and the Courtyard, who each generously offered up one or more
four-night stays during Anthrocon 2018.

* To all the attendees who bought merchandise and made cash donations to Hope Haven's donation
buckets at their table.

I would like to give thanks to my staff who helped conduct both the charity auction and raffle.
None of this could've occurred without the assistance of Mike "Mrianti" Pierce, Trevor "Mr. Mutt"
Boyd, Tracey "Stormy" Bealer, and Tamarie "CelticKitty" Simmons, as well as the additional
assistance of legacy staffer, Shaun "Stahi" Daugherty.

Unclaimed high-ticket raffle items will be re-raffled next year.

RESULTS ARE CURRENTLY TENTATIVE for few months after publication of this summary to account for
additional incoming donations and human error. Corrections will be made as they are identified.

Finally, here are all the details.

Starting Our Journey To Pittsburgh!

Mon, 2017-06-26 20:03

Greetings! It's almost time for Anthrocon 2017 and many of us (including the convention staff) are either on our way to Pittsburgh, or will be heading there soon.

If you need to speak with the convention staff, sending us emails may result in a delay before we reply, so stopping by the Convention Operations office in the Crawford Room of the Westin or Room 309 in the Convention Center is recommended.

Here are some useful links:

Much of this information can also be found on our mobile website (optimized for your phone and tablet):

We'll see you in Pittsburgh.

Volunteering at Anthrocon 2017

Sun, 2017-06-25 14:26

Anthrocon depends on volunteers to help with the thousands of things that need to be done. Nearly every department makes use volunteers. While we cannot pay our volunteers for their unselfish service, we can at least try to make their efforts worthwhile. In addition to a fabulous ribbon when you sign up, you can earn a number of additional tokens of appreciation.

Starting at only six(6) hours, you'll get a tasty treat. At twelve (12) hours, we will give you a free Anthrocon T-shirt! Work a whopping eighteen (18) hours or more, will get you a complimentary membership to Anthrocon next year.

If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out this e-form with your information. You will also need to stop by the Convention Operations Office (aka Con Ops) to get your timesheet.

The Anthrocon Operations Hotline Returns for 2017

Sat, 2017-06-24 14:24

Hi everyone,

This year's Anthrocon is just over a week away!

As in previous years, we will have the Convention Operations Hotline up and running again. The hotline opens on the Wednesday afternoon of each convention, and shuts down the Monday morning following the convention. During that time period, the hotline is manned 24 hours a day by convention staff, who can answer any questions that you may have. (Calls made outside of those dates will go straight to voicemail, and we recommend that you send email instead)

If you need to speak to someone from Operations with a question or a concern, the phone number is:

What sorts of things would you call ConOps for? More info can be found on our Con Ops page.

See you soon!

Fursuiter Information! Fursuit Badges, Parade Summary, and Post Parade Meet & Greet!

Tue, 2017-06-20 23:38

Attention Fursuiters! It's getting closer to Anthrocon and we know there are lots of things going on. So we wanted to take a few minutes to address something things we know are important! While we are posting this here as well there will be print copies of this availalbe at the Programming Office in the Westin's Washington Room!

Fursuit Badges!

To get a Fursuit Badge:

The suit must represent an "anthro" character.  Character representations of non-anthro characters, human characters, spandex bodysuits do not count.  At minimum, a headpiece, hand-paws, and a tail (if applicable by species); if using latex and makeup, it must completely cover exposed surfaces.  Skin must not be visible when the costume is worn, to complete the illusion of an anthropomorphic creature.  Remember, we have only a limited number of badges, which will be available outside of Operations in Room 309 of the convention center.

Charity Auction/Raffle Donations Still Needed For 2017 Fundraising!

Sat, 2017-05-13 16:09

Anthrocon's selected charity this year is Hope Haven Farm Sanctuary, whose mission is to rescue neglected farm animals and provide them safe haven. While cash donations made at the convention are great, the plurality of funds are raised via donations of artwork and merchandise to our Charity Auction and Raffle. We're looking for popular items and unique craftwork that will make people say, "I want that!"

While we must distribute items between the Raffle and Auction based on available space, time, and perceived and past value, here are some examples of donations that went big in past years...

Great examples from prior raffles: Crafts based on hot trends ("Toothless" Build-A-Bear plus - $381); Popular media (Sherlock Hound DVD set - $147); Art bought at prior convention art shows ("Wrath" art by Terrie Smith - $83); Giant, brand new plush of popular animals or characters (Border collie plush - $129); Merchandise based on popular fiction (Dr. Who's sonic screwdriver - $158)

Great examples from prior auctions: Fursuit costumes and commissions (Griffon fursuit head - $460); Rare convention memorabilia (Full set of all AC t-shirts since 1997 - $200); Professional sculpture (Softsculp poseable gryphon - $350); Unique opportunities (A speaking part in audio version of Diane Duane's "The Last Meow" - $500); Dorsai fursuit tags (Tag #1000 - $1600)

If you have an item you believe would be appropriate and would like to donate, please contact charity(at)!
