(Not a furry fan? That's cool. You're still welcome here.)
I was thinking of going to the Delaware FurBowl meet at the end of the month. One of the problems is that I would need a ride. Is there anyone going that can give me a ride? I would even pitch in for gas money
I said that was one of the problems. The other is parents. Mine are really strict and want to know about people. I would just tell them that you are a person from my college, who lives in Delaware, and going to introduce me to new friends. Is that ok?
If you have any questions, send me a private message,
Bring your parents :3 I'll do my best to make sure we put on a good first impression.
We don't bite, and they might actually enjoy it!
i live in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. It is in the city, but its not like in the main part
that wouldnt really work. my parents are already anti-fur, but thanks for the suggestion
its ok. maybe i can go next year.
I belive the bowling is montly if not every other week, i cant remember. If your gona plan something a year in advance get ready for AC ^^
you do have a point, but AC is also a no go.
thanks
Well...how old are you?
19. my parents think furry is childish and should give it up. They say it will harm my future.
Um, No offense to you or nothing.. But uh.. Do they really have any say over if you go to Pittsburgh to see some friends in the summer?
this is true
Take the train. I did that when I went to visit Philly from here. Sure, it's longer than driving....but, it's a way to go without worrying about a driver.
I took the bus from north carolina to Pitt ><
thanks for the suggestion. but my parents still wouldnt allow it.
just saying you wouldnt have to say anything about the con, just be like "Im gona visit some friends for a few days" it wouldnt be a lie, were your friends here <_<
You know what, ignore me, when it comes to parents Im BAD at advice, ask Forzii
ok, will do. im not concerned with AC right now, just the Delaware Furbowl.
but thanks for talking with me
I'm 33 and furry helped get me where I was today. My present software engineering job (which I've held for 4.5 years, an eternity in the IT industry) came about because I knew a fur who knew an employee here.
My job before that (working at TurnTide, later bought by Symantec for $28 Million) came about when another fur learned of TurnTide's existence and pointed me towards them.
My job before that (for a company called Ascentive) happened in part because one of my references was a fellow furry, and the CEO happened to know him.
So, not to be disrespectful or anything, but I gotta call BS on the position of your parents'.
Anyway, to try and be productive here, have you considered dragging your parents along to Pittsburgh for Anthrocon some year?
you have made some pretty valid points. i thank you.
however, my parents are very over protective. they say that anything that can be a negative impact in my life. i am planning on being a teacher, so they are like "if my son was your student and he found out you were a fur, you would lose your job."
your position on my parents thinking is how i feel.
AC would just make it worse I'm afraid
going back to the AC thing if you can make it to 30th street station you can get there that was my plain for this year but do to budget issues i could no go but a ticket is only $50 one way and the train station is literally yards away from the con
i know about 30th. my friend got to AC via train.
I would go, but the thing is I do not have a ride
It's not that epic, really <_< Though I think you'd like it. You already know what I think about your parents..XD Personally, I'd say that you stand up to them and tell them that they've got no control over you anymore; you're an adult and you're going to make your own choices whether they like it or not.
Or don't, and be miserable and a hermit. XD Good luck, hope you get a ride.
ive asked him, but he has no room. i might be gettin a ride from someone else, but thanks for referring me

Two things:
1.) I just DO NOT understand this recurring theme I hear on forums about parents being against their kids being involved in the furry fandom. I guess some people just got the wrong impression somehow?? I am 42 years old and a parent of 2 and I think Furrydom is AWESOME! I would love to have my kids involved in something like this! My kids are younger 'cause I got a late start to breeding, but I have friends who have teens and in fact several of those teens were at AC. What I observed at AC was tons of people of all ages, races, sexual orientations, and nationalities coming together and sharing their love of art. There was drawing, painting, sculpting, sketch comedy, stand-up comedy, street theater, story-telling, dancing, music-making, of course all kinds of costume design and making, writing... I'm sure I'm leaving out lots, but the point is I saw AC as a big artists' commune, with people not only creating and sharing their art and self-expression but also teaching and learning different art forms. Not to mention all the work done of people coming together to organize and put on the whole thing. AND the best thing, I thought, was it was all done BY us FOR us! No corporate sponsors, not a bunch of passive consumers just consuming a packaged corporate "art" experience, but a real home-grown DIY meeting of creative minds. It was so inspiring! I just don't see what someone would think would be bad about that. Maybe folks are right - you just need to bring your parents along so they can see for themselves. Hey, I brought my kids along!
2.) My first instinct was to say, "Dude, you're 19, you're legally an adult, move out and do what you want!" But then I realized that is pretty insensitive; in today's economy it is not so easy to just strike out on your own. Besides, when I was 19 I was still in college which my parents were paying for and it sounds like you are in the same boat. Yeah, while the 'rents are footing the bill for college you do have to kind of follow their rules, 'tis true. Having BTDT I guess I can just say, you just have to suck it up for about 2 more years and then you'll be out on your own and no one can tell you you can't go to Pittsburgh and dress up like an animal!
But meanwhile, do try to have them look into it more to see that whatever bad impression they somehow got, is mistaken.
Good luck to you!
Jen
Oh yeah, I'm pretty sure you actually have to do something really bad to get fired from a teaching job. Like, do your job extremely poorly, or do something illegal. I've never heard of anyone being fired and the reason given was, "we saw him at a dance and he was wearing a headband with fake-fur EARS on it!!!! Plus, we saw one day at his house he was drawing a picture of a CENTAUR!!! *gasp* *the horror* CLEARLY he should never be around children!!"
Maybe start a thread here or on Anthrocon.com and ask for those who are teachers to share their experiences. Have they ever had trouble?
yeah more than likely they looked at a facebook page and saw him/her with alcohol and thats why because thats what most teachers get fired for in my area
A bit silly to fire a teacher over their likes and hobbies. Doesn't effect their teaching ability in my view.
Well, looks like this meet is out the window. I still might have a ride down (which isn't set in stone yet), but I do not have a ride back home. If there is anyone who could give me a ride back, I would chip in for gas money and greatly thank you.

Where exactly do you live? If it's not fairly close to me, i'd rather not. Specially if you're actually in philly, i hate city driving.
