Just wondering what everyone does at Halloween. I'm guessing it's a special holiday for most furries, just 'cause why wouldn't a holiday about dressing up be special to people who like to dress up or imagine themselves as animals?
Do you go to parties, out to clubs, trick-or-treating? Do you dress as your fursona or do you do other costumes as a change of pace from fursuiting?
What are you going to be this year?
What was the favorite costume you ever wore for Halloween (pictures, please!)
Giza, do you have a special Halloween Birthday party?
So, I'll start off by answering my own questions:
I have been going for about the past, well, let's not name how many years, to see a Grateful Dead cover band play out at Halloween. Sometimes Fungus, sometimes Left 4 Dead, lately theCAUSE; previously at Thirsty's and lately at PD's Pub. Also I usually start and/or end the evening at a friend's house party. They've hosted a Halloween party every year for years and years now. Also I go trick-or-treating with the kids before going out.
My fursona was "born" when the guys in the band decided to have a theme/contest for a Halloween show: "come as your favorite character from a Grateful Dead song." I came as the "dragon with matches" from "Fire on the Mountain." That was actually the first time I was an animal for Halloween.
This year I am going to be a bat.
I've wanted to be a bat for several years now. One year I was planning on it, but when I was driving to JoAnn's to get fabric for the costume I ran over a squirrel and after I took her home and buried her and burned an offering in her honor, I was too sad to go on with making the costume. So now, several years later, I'm going to do it.
Two of my favorite costumes were Xena, Warrior Princess and The Queen of Diamonds (also a character from a Grateful Dead song, "Loser." It was fun, it was a 'couples costume;" I was the Queen of Diamonds and my husband was the Loser. We've never done a "couples costume" before and probably never will again.)
I have no photos of me as Xena because I was furiously gluing and stapling it together in a rush to get out the door, and then over the course of that long, long, crazy, crazy night, it kind of fell apart mostly. It did look awesome for most of the evening, though!
Will post a queen photo later.
Well, If I get my Fursuit done before Halloween, I am thinking of Sitting at the Door like every year because I don't have any friends to go treat-or-treating with.
And I will be giving Candy out in my Fursuit, And I hope to take a few pictures to show it off on the night and maybe when it's finished if I get round to building it.
Just I avoid doing anything scary, But I did watch a show called "Dead Set." two years ago after a TV show called "Big Brother." And there are 12 people in a flat living together, And then Zombies attack, There was about 5 episodes of it, I only watched the first Four, And I didn't get to see what happened in the end, But I am too scaried to watch it allow. I watched it with a few Friends (A Big brother of a younger friend and his gilrfriend.)
But I hope people do some interesting things this year.
well, if im in cleveland, i go to mushroomheads oldschool show that they have every year. otherwise, i take the day off work, dress up in one of my many costumes, and terrorise the city of shittsburgh. that is all.

Even with my birthday on Halloween, I generally don't do any big parties. Usually I'll get together with a small (low single digits) number of folks and maybe do dinner and a little excessive drinking.
This coming Halloween will be a bit different, though, since it will be the Sunday at FurFright. It will be the first time in all the conventions I attended that my birthday falls on a convention. Haven't yet decided how I'm going to celebrate it, but I'm gonna do something fun!
i stay at home and hand out candy. because my parents are BUMS. the first nine or so Halloweens of my life were spent meandering about a church parking lot in a costume half made of scotch tape, gathering ridiculously small portions of whatever bull candy happened to be on sale at walmart this time of year. the past two or three have been spent as the guy who stays at home, morosely handing out equally small portions of candy while the hay ride goes around.
this year is going to be DIFFERENT. i don't know how, but it is. if i have to drag my parents to a rave, so be it. if i have to be dragged to the ER, so be it! it just needs to be different! Halloween always makes me realize I'm an adventurous soul stuck in the care of a comparatively bland pair of parents!
I know, If you want it to be different, And don't mine being hurt so you can go to ER, You can shot yourself in the foot. That would get you to ER pretty good, Or you can scare a few people how come to your door with a Gun in their face, That would scare them, Bu make sure you don't load the thing, You don't want accidents, I would love to see someone do that for Halloween.
What do you thing?
I stay home and sit at my computer like a lump because my mom thinks I'm too old for Halloween
.
your never to old to go.
"Growing old is inevitable ... Growing up is optional!!!"
Yea, I remember a program called Reses or something, It's a bit like a break or Playtime for little kids in America, And a very old teacher waht dressed up in a were-wolf costume and she says that.
MANY costumes, eh? Glad I'm not the only one past childhood who has a whole trunk of costumes and dress-up accessories.
Just how DO you terrorize the town, anyway?
recess.
the most amazing thing ever. you don't have it in great Britain?!?!
Good Lord, Thomas, that sounds awful!! Both of them!!
Please don't try that at home, kids.
No, But I think it's called a different name, It's called "Play Time." In elementy school and Break Time in High school here. Usualy 15 minutes it lasts.
I just spend it Air guitaring or Drawing.
that's what i was thinking as i was assembling my acoustic arsenal in my garage. there's no upside to shooting yourself in the foot, except free food and cable and no homework for a day.
riding down a steep hill on a 4 wheeled dohickey, however...
*Alowl giggles.* My idea would a bit naught, But it would give a new meaning to the phase Trick-Or-Treat, And turn it into, Trick-Or-Loaded. *Alowl snickers.*
But if you go thought with hurting yourself, Make sure you don't do any life threating things or do some life long damage. Ok?
I do nothing =/
But when I was younger I'd would dressed up, and get candy.
Then when I became teenager I use to throw stuff at random houses, and all that good stuff.
Don't play with guns they are not toys. Cops have shot kids with toy guns by mistake.
We do not get any tricker treats here since the...incident.
really? air guitaring for 15 minutes straight? that sounds like it would hurt. the question is whether or not it would hurt you or the universe's awesomeness quotient.
my first post on here
anyway, i useually have a massive party with my mates, then go out to town and course trouble
Hello WILKS97. You might want to make a introduction at the link below.
http://www.pa-furry.org/forum/introductions
Say hi, tell us about you if you like.
Well I trick or treated with my friends for as long as I could.
Last year I ended up working at a haunted house~ (which was fun, but you had to work so many days to actually get paid..which I didn't do..) So that seriously sucked that I gave up my halloween for nothing.
This year I'm debating between sitting outside while handing out candy in my fursuit OR going to Furfright.
Most memorable costume.. Prolly when I was little and dressed as the grim reaper. Half the people couldn't tell I was a girl, o my. I can't really remember my other costumes. I think in recent years I was a pirate and a dark angel :/
(which was fun, but you had to work so many days to actually get paid..which I didn't do..)
Is that... even legal?
(If it's a non-profit, it probably is. If it's a private business, however, that's a different matter)
As I understand there is some exceptions, but I can not find any examples right now.
The current minimum wage of Pennsylvania is $5.15 per hour. No Pennsylvania (PA) wage and hour laws exist to address minimum wage. Instead, Pennsylvania follows the federal standard, which is subject to change.
What is the Jacob's ladder? How do you work it? Why is everyone else afraid of doing it?
(Only Jacob's ladder I know of is the toy made from small rectangles of wood connected by ribbons. A tricky little toy but I never heard of anyone afraid to use it
)
Oh yeah, working a haunted house! I did that two years when I was in high school and it was great fun! We didn't get paid either, it was a non-profit group. It was great, I got kissed by the grim reaper (who was really just my friend Steve from stage crew.)
Prokadae and Babybat, working a haunted house might be just the thing for you two since you want to do something different and have fun.
2009 Queen of Diamonds

2004 Gwenhwyvar, Queen of the Faeries

(I like to be the queen. I've also been a Disco Queen and Queen Jane Approximately and a Queen Bee, and then there was Xena, Warrior Princess. Trying to think of more royalty-themed costumes...)
Wow, I didn't expect you can be shot over it, But it would spot people egging your house.
But there goes the greatest idea of Halloween I every had, Beside the run away and screem when little kid come to the door and I dish out candy for them pretneding to be scaried.
I do it most of the time, But I warn you, If your rubbing you finger again a rought surface for that amount of time without realizing your doing it, You will get cuts, I had a few when I got a bit over board when I do my Devildriver songs.
And is doesn't really hurt for me, But it tires your arm out if your not used to it.
Hey Zelda.
I plan on having my fursuit done before Halloween. I go to a boarding school (just for a better life and education) and they celebrate Halloween there. Middle and High don't do much, but we have a huge parade through the campus. The Elementary and Middle school usually have parties where people come in costumes! So, I really want to dress up and go down to my little sister's dorm so I can play with her and dance with the little kids.
Because old kids don't know how to have fun right.
They want to give the boys...things that they shouldn't and dance with their bodies hangin out their clothes. That's not me.
I'm all for fun!
So that's what I'm doing.
And then, they usualy say that, if you have a costume, you can wear it to scholl the next day, since we're usually still at school over Halloween. I get to dress up on my birthday!!!
Cool, I am thinking of give kids candy in my fursuit if I get to finish it before Halloween, And I hope I don't scare any of the little kids too.
An old farmer up the road use fire rock salt shotgun shells at the dirt bike riders if he caught them riding in his corn field in the 70's.
Ok? I would of used a Beanbag shell to give them a naughty mark and a warning.
That would show them, And avoid killing them too.
He meant, the toy gun was mistaken for a REAL gun, and in the situation it appeared to be a serious threat; the officers shot in self-defense or to disarm and sadly the youngsters were killed.
If you answered the door aiming a gun (unloaded or even fake) at trick-or-treaters, and one of them or one of their parents was armed, they might very well shoot you, and quickly too, in the reasonable belief, seeing as you are pointing a gun in their face, that you are about to shoot them.
Oh, I am sorry for thinking that would be a good idea for scaring someone on Halloween, And I am sorry to heard that a youngster was killed to.
I didn't think this one though, Sorry I mentioned this, And thought about it.
That sounds like fun, Morbyd, a parade and everything! Here's to getting your fursuit done in time. (Here's hoping I get my costume done in time too... for me, late August is waaaay to late to start on a Halloween costume!)
That would be fun. Kids seem to love it when even the people staying home handing out candy are in costume. But don't worry, you're too cute to scare the little kids, they will probably just want to pet you or get a hug.
Yea, Lettings hope I can make a start on the body suit when I get back from holiday next week, Then I can ask for equipment for my head. Nothing big I need, Just small amounts of things that only come in big amounts, Like black window screen, £40 ($80) for the smallest amount.
And I would hope my Fursuit does come out cute, and hopefully doesn't fall apart, And I also hope the Adult are not weirdied out by a 6 foot Wolf (Which looks like a shunk.) Hug their kids, And I would be honnored if they wanted to take a picture or ask questions about it, I think it would be cool that the kids around my area like to see me in it every year.
This year I'm going to Dracula's Ball with my mate. Normally I just chill at her house and we have a fancy dinner and watch some 'scary' movies. Its a tradition to watch at least one scary movie every day in the month of October.
ah.... god im an asshole on Halloween lol i drive around with a friend and we take the whole unattended candy bowl and drive away lol thats how we do it now cause were "too old to do this" attitude we get from people now. holloween is dead now in my neighborhood. all the kids grew up and moved away in the only one under the age of 20 left in my neighborhood
[blockquote(I like to be the queen. I've also been a Disco Queen and Queen Jane Approximately and a Queen Bee, and then there was Xena, Warrior Princess. Trying to think of more royalty-themed costumes...)[/blockquote]
Hrmmm...if you dressed up as a steak, you could be a queen cut. Or if you wore a set of sheets, you could claim to be a queen-size bed.
I've always been a fan of offbeat costumes myself, when i have the time to put one together (i'm rarely home for halloween). I have fond memories of my brother talking about going with friends to a big block party as windows 95 (one person carried the start button, and when you press it, everyone falls down). Once or twice i've gone places as a socket wench. And i remember my dad telling me about one of the most creative costume sets he ever saw, before i was born: A lady and her husband go to a party together, she as a rug, and he as a carpet layer.
reminds me of the time i went as an identity crisis: i stuck a bunch of name tags with different names on them.
Hmm, I never got the "too old to do this" thing. If you show up at my house in a costume, I will always give you candy, I don't care who you are or how old you are.
Now, on the other hand, I DO get irritated with older teens who show up WITHOUT a costume and expect candy! I mean, put some effort into it for crying out loud. It isn't *just* free candy, y'know, you're supposed to dress up. If you can't put together some kind of actual costume, at LEAST have something witty, like Prokadae mentioned with all the name tags, or like the old line (if you're not wearing a costume at all),"I'm a serial killer. We look just like everyone else."
Love, love, love the Windows95 idea with everyone falling down!
I would trick-or-treat but, Being 6 foot tall, I feel a little goofy asking for candy at my height, Like the people that are giving me candy are think that I am older enough to work, So I can buy my own candy.
But I now just entertain the kids now.
Thank you! I like the Queen Bed idea!Fashion a dress out of a quilt, put a headboard across my back/shoulders (I'm thinking cardboard, covered in papier mache, and painted), the crown (of course), and a scepter with maybe a teddy bear on the end of it...fun!
i explained my dismay to my dad, and he says if i can come up with a decent costume that i can pass for a collage student in, he'll take me to a collage party thing. ^^
Air guitar hurts your fingers?? Aren't they just pushing on, you know, AIR?
I play steel-string acoustic, now THAT hurts the fingers if you play too long, unless you have good calluses.
I do see how air-guitar could make your arm sore.
Which all reminds me... I haven't played in days!! Got to go practice now! Trying to learn "Me and Bobby McGee."
Well, As I said, If your fingers are rubbing againist a surface. (I do it againist my Art folder.) And it can cut your fingers, I have done this a few times. Just rubbing the skin away as you do it.
I am I would like to try and play an electric Guitar, So I guess I am going to need to save up and get a place to practice.
Oh I see, you do it against something.
As for electric guitar, they make teeny speakers that are inexpensive and not too loud for practicing. Or use headphones, so you can practice right at home. (Just don't turn up the sound in the headphones too loud, you do not want to damage your hearing!) You should be able to get a used electric guitar pretty cheap. Have fun!
Thanks, I just need to Save up some money to buy it, Then get it when my mum can take me, And if she would let me have it too.
And as for damaging my hearing, Your too slow on that, My hearing is already damaged, And I have a few hearing problems, Like a high pitched ringing in my ears all the time, Even when I try to sleep.

i stay home and give out candy for 2 reasons
1 i have nothing els to do.
2 im the only one not afraid to work the Jacobs ladder
