So as folks may have read, I did in fact fursuit for the first time at FurFright. Saturday night while P-Kitty, myself, and some other folks were having a few drinks, the topic of myself and fursuiting came up. I somehow was persuaded by Captain Morgan other folks in the room to put on the head and paws of Manik's cheetah fursuit and then walked around con space for about half an hour. The partial actually went pretty well with the black overcoat I wore with it, and it gave me the opportunity to "flash" my conbadges to folks that I knew. (and in many cases surprise them, as was the case with Protocollie!) Here's the proof: Sweating inside the partial wasn't too bad, but I definitely couldn't wear the suit for an excessive amount of time. I unfortunately had issues with the paws, since they were basically giant slippers, I couldn't easily put my orthotic shoe inserts in them, and that did a number on my feet. (maybe I should shuffle more next time?) Visibility was also very poor inside the fursuit head. Specifically, I was told that visibility in that head was particularly bad compared to other suits. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with other fursuits to compare that against. I'll have to see if it's feasible for a fursuit maker to "build" a set of paws around a spare pair of shoes when I commission should I decide to commission a leopard cheetah cheopard fursuit at some point. If anyone can recommend any good fursuit builders, BTW, feel free to do so in the comments. |

The captions made me giggle x3
As far as the foot paws go, most builders ask you to provide a set of shoes for them to make your paws with. Most even charge you extra to buy a pair of shoes for you.
As far as good builders, I know a few. Let me list the ones I know off hanf. FYI these are all their FA names:
BeetleCat
BeastCub
Joecifur
I know more, but FA is down so I will have to edit my post later.
Here are some more.
ArtSlave
DrakonicKnight
FirestormSix
LatinVixen
Oh my god! *Alowl pounces Giza.* Congratz on fursuiting for the first time.
Plus are you planning on Fursuiting more?
Pawesome! I would of beed great if you had a "Front paged! shirt. Go around Front page flashing everyone.
=3= nice lol you sould go and pounce some random people now and go "YOU HAVE BEEN LEOPARD POUNCED!!" lmfao
I was waiting for pictures. YOU LOOK SO CUTE!!!! Too bad that's a cheetah, and not my Giza-leopard. I still love the blue eyes.
I'm sorry you were so sweaty and you couldn't see and your feet were crying by the end of the night. And, I think you should get a LEOPARD comission done by Beetlecat. I've checked them out, and their suits are really cute (done her research).
Giza ,
http://www.furaffinity.net/user/bambiboo3/ is making my suit and she has made others in the past you can look at her pics
Great to hear you had a nice time suiting, Giza! I've been suiting since '97 (before it was "cool"!) so if you have any questions about washing, minor fixes and general caring for it, feel free to bug me.
The heat does get easier to deal with the more that you suit. Make sure you drink plenty of fluids of course, take regular breaks, and know your limits.
If sweating becomes an issue, consider getting a balaclava which will help pull sweat away from your head, and also reduce chances of it falling into your eyes. I've never had this problem myself, but I know many who swear by balaclavas.
If you do get a full suit, I definitely recommend getting some UnderArmor, or the Wal-Mart fake equivalent, which works just as well. (Make sure you get the thin summer stuff, not the thick type meant for winter!) This not only helps keep you cooler, but also reduces the amount of sweat that gets into your actual suit, incrasing it's lifetime. (I definitely still recommend washing after conventions, of course.)
Febreeze and Endbac-II are your friends, but careful not to overuse either. They're also no substitute for washing. If you need any Endbac, let me know and I can hook you up!
As for fursuit makers, there are a LOT out there. Even I make paws, bodies and tails (but not heads yet, sorry). Checking out some of the names, find a style you like, and a price point too. New makers are cheaper, but quality may be an issue. Big name makers may have good quality, but are often expensive and have a long waiting list. I recommend meeting up with folks with suits, checking out their head, body, and paw designs, asking about vision, quality, etc., and going from there.
Oh, and as for the shoes, most suit makers do use shoes (or slippers) to make feetpaws, so you should be all set there.

Awesome!
Love the captions.
....and a BOOK!!
